# Security

> Your funds sit in a wallet only you control, secured by your login and your device biometrics. Here is how custody works and how to export your private key.

## Custody of funds

Alpha is **self-custodial**. When you create an account, a wallet is generated for you by [Privy](https://www.privy.io/), a wallet infrastructure provider used by many consumer apps. Your funds live in that wallet.

What that means in practice:

* **Alpha cannot move your funds.** Every deposit, trade, and withdrawal is authorized by you, from your device.
* **Alpha cannot freeze your funds.** There is no admin control over your wallet.
* **No seed phrase.** Your wallet is secured by your Google, Apple, or email login, not by 24 words you have to store.
* **Your login is the master key.** Keep it secure. Anyone who controls your Google, Apple, or email account can access your Alpha wallet.

For how the wallet works and how your keys are managed, see [Privy's wallet documentation](https://docs.privy.io/wallets/overview). Alpha does not manage your keys and does not speak for how Privy does.

## How the app is protected

* **Biometrics.** Face ID, Touch ID, or your Android biometrics gate the app and confirm withdrawals.
* **Sign in with Google and Apple.** Both carry the security of those accounts, including any two-factor protection you have set on them.
* **Email one-time codes.** Codes expire quickly and can only be used once.

Alpha does not currently offer a separate in-app two-factor option. If you want two-factor protection, enable it on the Google or Apple account you use to sign in.

## Export your private key

Because the wallet is yours, you can export its private key and use it in any compatible wallet.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Profile → Settings → Export Wallet Key" />

  <Step title="Select Reveal private key">
    A Privy window opens.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in to Privy">
    Use the **same email address** you use for Alpha. This confirms you are the wallet owner.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy your private key">
    Store it somewhere safe. Never paste it into a website, message, or app you do not fully trust.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Anyone with your private key has full control of your funds, permanently. Alpha support will never ask for it. If you export it, treat it like cash.
</Warning>

## What if I lose my phone?

Your wallet is tied to your login, not your device. Install Alpha on a new phone, sign in the same way you did before, and everything is there.

## What if Alpha shuts down?

Your wallet and funds are independent of Alpha. You can export your private key at any time and access your funds from another wallet.

## Staying safe

* Only download Alpha from the official [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/alpha-trade-markets/id6771495964) and [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.tradealpha) listings.
* Alpha will never DM you asking for a code, a password, or your private key.
* Only `tradealpha.app` and its subdomains are official.
* If you think your account is compromised, secure the Google, Apple, or email account you sign in with first, then [contact support](/faq/contact-support).
