Tap a stock from **Markets** in the app. Tap **Long** (bet up) or **Short** (bet down). Choose how much margin to put up and your leverage. Review and confirm. ### What order types are supported? * **Market order:** executes immediately at the best available price * **Limit order:** executes only at the price you set or better * **Stop loss / Take profit:** available on most markets ### How do I close a position? Open the position from **Portfolio** and tap **Close**. You can close fully or partially. ### What's the difference between long and short? * **Long:** you profit if the price goes up * **Short:** you profit if the price goes down ### Can I edit an open trade? You can adjust your stop loss, take profit, or close partially. You cannot edit the original entry price. ### Why did my order not fill? * **Limit order:** the market price never reached your limit * **Market order:** insufficient liquidity at that moment (rare) * **Margin error:** not enough collateral to open the size requested ### Can I trade outside US market hours? Alpha supports extended-hours trading on most markets. Check the individual market page for trading windows. ## Fees ### What are the trading fees? * **Maker fee:** charged when you add liquidity (e.g., limit orders that don't immediately fill) * **Taker fee:** charged when you remove liquidity (e.g., market orders) Current rates are shown in the app before each trade. ### What is the funding fee? A periodic payment exchanged between longs and shorts that keeps the perp price aligned with the underlying stock. See [Perpetual Futures](/intro/perpetual-futures). ### Are there hidden fees? No. All fees are shown before you confirm any trade, deposit, or withdrawal. ## Troubleshooting ### The app won't load or keeps crashing 1. Close and reopen the app 2. Update to the latest version (App Store / Play Store) 3. Check your internet connection 4. Restart your phone 5. Reinstall the app — your account is safe (funds are tied to your login, not the device) ### I can't log in * Double-check your email or phone number * Try **"Trouble signing in?"** on the login screen * If you got a new phone, your account still works — log in with your usual credentials * Still stuck? [Contact support](/support/contact-support) ### My trade didn't execute Possible reasons: limit price not reached, insufficient margin, market closed, or a network/app issue. Check **Activity** for the order status. ### I placed the wrong order — can I cancel it? * **Pending limit orders:** yes, cancel from **Portfolio** * **Already-filled market orders:** no, but you can immediately close the position to exit ### The price I see doesn't match other apps Alpha's prices come from our matching engine and reflect supply and demand on the platform, not directly from a stock exchange. They track closely but may differ slightly. Funding rates correct any persistent gaps. ### I see a position I don't recognize Check your **Activity** log for recent fills. If you genuinely didn't open the position, [contact support](/support/contact-support) immediately and treat it as a possible security issue.
