Add margin
Adding margin puts more USDC behind the position without changing its size. It gives the trade more padding against liquidation: on a long, the liquidation price drops; on a short, it rises.1
Open the position
From Portfolio, tap the position.
2
Tap Modify, then Add margin
Enter the amount of USDC to add from your available balance.
3
Confirm
The new liquidation price is shown before you confirm.
- Each position has its own margin. Adding margin to one position does not affect any other.
- If a position is liquidated, you lose only the margin assigned to that position.
- Margin can be added to an open position but not removed. To take margin out, close or partially close the position.
- Your effective leverage is position size divided by margin, so adding margin lowers it.
Add to a long or short
You can increase the size of an open position in the same direction.1
Open the position
From Portfolio, tap the position.
2
Tap Modify, then Add to Long or Add to Short
Enter the additional margin. The new size is added at the position’s existing leverage.
3
Confirm
The order fills at the current market price, and your entry price becomes the weighted average of the two entries.
Add or change take profit and stop loss
From the position screen, tap Modify, then Add TP / SL. You can:- Add a take profit or stop loss to a position that has none
- Move an existing level up or down
- Remove a level entirely
What you cannot edit
- Entry price. It is set when the order fills. Adding to the position changes the average, not the original fill.
- Direction. Use Reverse to flip a position. See Closing an order.
- Margin, downward. You can add margin but not withdraw it from an open position. Close part of the position to free some up.
- Leverage, upward. Since margin cannot be removed, leverage can only go down (by adding margin) while a position is open. To trade at higher leverage, close and reopen.
